Dr. Markus K. Kung, 70, of Morgantown, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2014 at his home, with his family by his side. He had been battling pancreatic cancer. He was born in Basel, Switzerland on April 14, 1944. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Geneva, Switzerland in 1970. After his military service in the Swiss Army and internal medicine residency in Lausanne and Basel, Switzerland, he underwent training in Pulmonary Medicine at Mt. Sinai Medical Center of greater Miami. Markus immigrated to the United States in 1980 and became a US citizen in 1991. After several years in academic medicine at the University of Kentucky and West Virginia University, he joined the Louis A. Johnson Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV as a clinical Pulmonary and Critical Care physician in September 1989. He was a member of the St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Star City, WV. He loved his family and friends and cared deeply for his veteran patience. His other interests he enjoyed were skiing, scuba diving, reading, classical music and hiking in the beautiful wilderness areas of West Virginia. He is survived by his wife Jennifer Peck-Kung, two sons Jason Thomas Kung and Andrew Martin Kung, and a daughter, Sarah Kaitlin Kung. He is also survived by three brothers who reside in Switzerland. Friends may call Dering-Henson Funeral Home Friday, December 26, 2014 from 6-9 pm with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel and Saturday. December 27, 2014 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service hour with Fr. John V. Dibacco as celebrant.
