Dr. John Patrick Stone

Dr. John Patrick Stone, doctor, tinkerer and avid sportsman, peacefully passed away at his home in Florida on April 5, 2022 from a prolonged and difficult illness. John was a graduate of West Virginia University, Class of 1967, and from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Class of 1971. He was a family physician and practiced in Windber, Pennsylvania, Mt. Gilead, Ohio and Carrollton, Ohio from 1972-1996. He retired from medicine and the United States Department of Veterans Affairs in 2010. He is survived by his cherished wife of 54 years, Lucinda "Cindy" nees Smith and his daughter, Kathryn and son, John. He was the son of Kenneth Marshal and Lova Ann and brother of David Eugene Stone passed 2003, husband to Cheryl nees Mull and daughters, Rachel and Hannah of Cumberland, Maryland. He was the beloved son-in-law of Ed and Louise Smith, of Morgantown, WVa., owners of Crescent Printing Shop where he worked his way through undergraduate school with his future bride and in-laws. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 104 South 21st Street, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433, beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Wilson officiating. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 9, 2022 at East Oak Grove Cemetery in Morgantown, West Virginia with Rev. Bart Thompson officiating. John and Cindy have always been active members and supporters of the United Methodist Church and are asking in lieu of flowers, for donations to be made to their home church of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. Local arrangements and services are under the direction of Dering-Henson Funeral Home.
