Eugenia Munroe Obituary

'Della', 87, passed away peacefully on December 19, surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 8, 1930 at home in Old Bridge, NJ, the youngest of 4 children. Her family moved to Basking Ridge, NJ in 1943 where her parents, the late Edmund and Mary Prominski, operated a wholesale and retail flower business. She graduated from Bernards High School in 1947, and then attended Berkley Secretarial School in Orange, NJ. She enjoyed singing with her 2 sisters as a trio and in local and state choruses. She married her loving husband, Tom, on August 23, 1953. Together they took over the family flower business, Somerset Hills Florist, in 1954, where she was a very talented floral designer for 32 years. Della and Tom retired to Murrells Inlet, SC and then to Bradenton, FL. While there, Della was a docent at the John and Mabel Ringling Museum, where she led tours at the 'Ca d' Zan' mansion. She was also a member of the Garden Lakes Chorus and performed at many venues. They moved to Morgantown, WV in July, 2012 to be closer to family. Della and Tom enjoyed extensive travel throughout the world and visited every state in the union. She cherished many long lasting friendships formed in each home town and through mutual hobbies of music, tennis and bridge. She was a member of St James Catholic Church in Basking Ridge and Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Sarasota. Della was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She was preceded in death by their first son, Thomas D Munroe Jr, brother John Prominski and sisters Irene Hicks and Mary Zarski. She leaves Tom, her devoted husband of 64 years, daughter Kathryn Karnack and husband Chuck of Morgantown formerly Pittsburgh, son Stephen and wife Susan of Van Wert OH, and daughter-in-law Mary Jo Sternick of Portland ME. 'Grammy' also leaves 6 grandchildren: Melissa, Tyler, Hunter, Davis, Travis and Dustin, and 5 great-grandchildren: Brooke, Chase, Travis, Thomas, and Swayze, all of whom she adored. She also leaves many special nieces and nephews. Della' s family extends their thanks and gratitude to the staff of Sundale Nursing Home and Morgantown/Amedisys Hospice for the care and comfort they provided during her stay. Caring services will be provided by Dering-Henson Funeral Home, and in keeping with her wishes, she was cremated.
