Henry Hoxter Obituary

Henry "Hank" Stansbury Hoxter was born on October 3, 1935, in Philadelphia, PA, to Geraldine and W. Franklin Hoxter. A precocious child with a penchant for mischief, Henry lived a life full of adventure and passion.

After completing high school, Henry joined the Air Force, where he formed a singing group called The Starlighters and showcased his musical talents on the trumpet and piano. Following his service, he returned home and married Mabel R. Harris. Later, he married Elgy Washington, and together they moved to Morgantown, WV, in the early 1970s.

In Morgantown, Henry joined the WVU Police Department, serving with dedication for 24 years. His close friendship with Bob Roberts, the Chief of Police, was a testament to his camaraderie and loyalty. Achieving the rank of lieutenant was a proud milestone in his career.

Henry was an avid Steelers and NASCAR fan, but his greatest loves were music, movies, and good food. Known for his kindness and a good word for anyone in need, he wasn't a man of many words, but his statements were always intentional and thought-provoking. His loved ones learned to keep their guard up around him, as he was a renowned prankster with a quirky smile and a chill demeanor.

Henry is survived by his children, Carole (Rod Parker), Brian (Shirlette Hoxter), Tracy Hoxter, and adopted son Ralph B. Hale; his grandchildren, Brian II (Holly), Christian, Ryan, Miranda, Major, and Rebekah; and six great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, sister, wife Elgy, and grandson Nick.

May Henry find peace in knowing that he leaves behind a legacy of kindness and good humor. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Rest well until we meet again, Henry "Hank" Hoxter, aka "Hoppie".
