Howard Franklin Kelley, 88, formerly of Morgantown and Clarksburg, WV, died on Sunday, August 24, 2014, at his home in Woodstock, GA. Kelley was born on July 7, 1926, at Ridgedale, WV, to the late Ewart Summerfield Peel and Isa Boyles Kelley. He is survived by his children: Karen Kelley King, Dennis Jeanne Kelley, Joy Kelley Ric Pierce, Rodney Billie Jane Kelley, all of Morgantown Brenda Kelley Gerry Sharpe of Salem, VA and Deborah John Bentley of Kennesaw, GA. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Cecil, Dana, Paul, Harold, Edward, Donald and sisters Gladys Jolliffe, Betty Bartages, Leoma Nutt. Kelley served in the us Navy during World War II 1943-46 as a carpenter's mate working on and serving on PT boats in New Guinea and The Philippines. After his discharge, he returned to Morgantown where he worked as a carpenter, job foreman for Cross Construction and later became a partner in WYK Associates, an architectural firm in Clarksburg, WV. He retired and moved to Woodstock, GA, where he was an active member of the Woodstock UMC. He enjoyed gardening, playing the guitar, listening to music, as well as being an avid WVU sports fan. He was a 32nd degree 50 year member of the Free Masons and a member of the Shrine. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Dering-Henson Funeral Home on Tuesday,September 2, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 pm. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014 in the funeral home chapel. The burial will follow in the WV National Cemetery in Grafton. The Patriot Patrol, a veterans' motorcycle club, will escort him to the Cemetery. The family is especially grateful for the excellent care provided by Woodstock Hospice and the Visiting Angels.
