James A. “Jim” Jones, 74, of McLean, VA, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at his home in McLean. Jim was born January 21, 1950, in Elkins, WV, son of the late Roy and Evelyn Wilmoth Jones.
Jim was a retired Human Resource Chief at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. He was a member of the Lewinsville Presbyterian Church, McLean, VA and a veteran of the United States Army.
Jim had a zest for life and a kind and gentle spirit. With that infectious smile and caring personality, he captured the hearts of all who knew him. He will truly be missed.
He is survived by his husband of 36 years, Larry Stern; daughter, Marcie Stern Hoge; son, Jason Stern (Chasity); grandsons, Hayden Hoge (Bailey Lyons), Ashton Stern Hoge (Maci); granddaughters, Addie Stern and Allie Downing; great-grandchildren, Messiah, Kadaris, and Khalena. Jim’s extended family includes Betty Cole (Al), of Rockville, MD and Bonnie Milnes (John), of Pittsburgh, PA and Mandy Channels of Elkins, WV, whom he thought of as his daughters. Jim is also survived by brother, Bob Jones, of Elkins, WV; sister, Diane Marstiller, of Elkins, WV; nieces, Chishele Siler, Kirissa Siler (Craig), and Ashley Jones, all of Elkins, WV; nephews, Adam Jones, of Charleston, WV, Mitch Marstiller, of Elkins, WV, Darren Jones, of Indiana, and Lauren Jones of Florida and a host of friends from all over the world.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Siler, and a brother, Glenn Jones.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 12:00 P.M. - 1:00 P.M. on Friday, February 7, 2025, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 P.M. honoring Jim’s life at Dering-Henson Funeral Home, 156 Foundry Street, Morgantown, WV with Rev. Dr. Scott Ramsey, of the Lewinsville Presbyterian Church, McLean, VA, officiating.
Donations are suggested, in James "Jim" Jones' memory, to the Deacons Fund at Lewinville Presbyterian Church, 1724 Chain Bridge Road, McLean, VA 22101. The Deacons Fund supports people, who are struggling in the congregation and the greater community, with urgent and emergency needs. These needs include rent, food, healthcare, essential utilities, and home repairs.
