Jennie Elizabeth Kessel, 80, of Morgantown, died Thursday March 16, 2017 at home surrounded by her family. She was born February 5, 1937 at Old Fields, Hardy County, WV the daughter of the late James A. Smith Sr. and Isabella Sprague Smith. She was a member of the Howesville Church of Christ and was dedicated to the church and to helping others with special needs. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James A. Smith Jr., Doyle E. Smith, and Charles Smith, who died at the age of three, sisters, Barbara Louise Foley, and twin sisters, Laura and Nell Smith, who died at five days old. Jennie is survived by her husband of sixty years, Gene A. Kessel, brothers, Gary Smith and Kenneth Smith and wife, Faye of Old Fields and a sister, Patricia Hull and husband, Bill of Hedgesville, WV. She is also survived by two sons and two daughters, Kathy Kessel Lloyd and husband, Larry of Springdale, AR, Karl Kessel and wife, Charisse of Arlington, TX, Thomas Kessel of Jacksonville, FL, and Frances Kessel Tennant and husband, Doug of Daybrook, WV, eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks is expressed to the nurses and aides of Morgantown Hospice for the loving care given to her during her recent illness. Visitation will be at Dering-Henson Funeral Home on Sunday, March 19, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Burial will be graveside on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Smith Family Cemetery, Old Fields Rd., Hardy County, WV. A memorial service celebrating Jennie's life will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Howesville Church of Christ.
