Joseph Vorbach Obituary

Joseph Paul Vorbach, 87, of Bakers Ridge Road, died the evening of Friday, October 13, at his home after a lengthy illness. Joe, the fourth of nine children of the late W. A. Vorbach, Sr. and Lena Grose Vorbach, was born February 5, 1930, in the family home on Collins Ferry Road. He is survived by his wife, Betty Marie, and two children, Diana Long of Nolensville, TN, and Tom Vorbach Sandra of Morgantown three grandchildren, Jocelyn Vorbach and husband Aaron Johnson of Morgantown, Steven Long and partner Jenell of Antioch, TN, and Allison Long and fiancé Pat Campbell of Chapel Hill, NC four siblings, M. Jack Vorbach of Bunker Hill, WV, formerly of Romney, Bonnie Mattingly James of Bridgeport, Twila Carra of Edgewater, FL, Shonet McClung James of Morgantown and Sharon Sutton of Palmyra, VA sisters-in-law, Katherine Vorbach of Morgantown, and Beverly Vorbach of Zellwood, FL many nieces, nephews and friends cousins, Tom Kelley of Morgantown, Helen Demma of Pittsburgh, Ray Grose Patty of Highland, MD, Eddie Grose Janet of Glen Dale, WV. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, David and William Jr. two sisters-in-law, Julia and Irene Vorbach and two brothers-in-law, George Sutton and Joe Carra. If you look up "volunteer," you will see Joe's picture. He was a hard working employee and supervisor who brought that same type of work ethic to his volunteerism. Joe would say every job needs a foreman, and he was a professional and gifted foreman on every project, including family reunions. He humbly helped and impacted hundreds of lives. Always there with a smile, joke, hug and word of encouragement, and truly whistled while he worked. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and mentor. He will be missed by many. One person can make a difference. Joe was involved with the Boy Scouts of America for 61 years as a Scout Life, the Scoutmaster of Troop 65 Drummond Chapel, member of the Mountaineer Area Council Executive Board, and Scouting Volunteer particularly at Camp Mountaineer. He received the Silver Beaver and Robert L. Shuman Awards. Joe was a member of Suncrest United Methodist Church Drummond Chapel since a child and received The Cross and Flame in recognition of service to children and youth. He was a member of United Association Local 152 Plumbers & Pipefitters and worked on numerous buildings and power plants in Morgantown and surrounding areas and survived Mount Storm in the middle of winter. He retired from Alpha Associates in 1993 as a field inspector. As a member of the Suncrest Kiwanis, he received the George E. Hixson Award. He thoroughly enjoyed the Terrific Kids program and the time that he spent with the enthusiastic elementary school students. Visitation will be held at Suncrest United Methodist Church from 5-8pm Thursday and 5-7pm Friday followed by the funeral service, Pastor Tim Halloran officiating. Following Joe's wishes, cremation arrangements will be handled by Dering-Henson Funeral Home. A private service will be held at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Boy Scout Camp Mountaineer Maintenance Fund The Joe Fund c/o Mountaineer Area Council, 1831 Speedway Avenue, Fairmont, WV 26554 the Suncrest United Methodist Church Maintenance Fund or a charity of choice. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Morgantown Amedisys Hospice and to caregiver, Evelyn Proffitt.

Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. and Friday, October 20, from 5-7 p.m.with a Memorial Service to follow.
