Mr. Kerry Bledsoe, of Morgantown, WV, passed away at home Friday, January 15, 2016. Kerry was born in Somerset, KY, to the late Mr. Joe Willis Bledsoe and Mrs. Mae Elizabeth Coe Bledsoe. He grew up in Charlestown, IN, where he graduated from Charlestown High School, having excelled in track and field, basketball, music, and theater. He earned a Bachelor's degree from Indiana University and a Master's of Science degree from Marshall University. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, Operation Liberty Shield, and Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he earned several medals and ribbons including the CG National Defense and Humanitarian Service Medals, CG Rifle Expert Medal, and CG Pistol Sharpshooter Ribbon. He served in the military for a combined 24 years in the United States Air Force, United States Navy Reserve, and United States Coast Guard Reserve. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer from the United States Coast Guard Reserve. He was involved in coaching and refereeing youth sports, and promoting youth programs, especially outdoor activities like fishing. He coached his son's baseball and soccer teams and was involved in Boy Scouts for a number of years. He retired from the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources as a Biologist in 2014. After retiring, Kerry pursued his favorite hobbies including birding, hiking with his daughter, fishing and hunting with his son, being an avid Civil War historian, and traveling. He loved visiting lighthouses, being near the ocean, and sailing. He is survived by his loving wife, Toni, of 33 years his son, Andrew his daughter, Julianne his mother, Mae two brothers, Larry Bledsoe and wife Janet, and Jeff Bledsoe two nephews, Joe Bledsoe and wife Rachel, and Sam Bledsoe and wife Jessica two nieces, Clarissa and Allie Bledsoe one aunt, Maxine Bledsoe and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Willis. Services will be held at 11:00AM, on Wednesday, January 20th, at the Dering- Henson Funeral Home with the burial immediately following. The Burial will be held at the Grafton National Cemetery, with military funeral honors, in Grafton, WV. Friends may call at the Dering- Henson Funeral Home, Morgantown, WV, from 2-4PM and 6-8PM on Tuesday, January 19th. His loss will be felt by those whose lives he has touched.
