Matilda Ethel Gerwig

Matilda E. Gerwig, 91, of Mountain Brook, AL, died May 28, 2017 at the home of her daughter in Mountain Springs. She was born August 31, 1925 in Morgantown a daughter of the late, Stephen Tackas and Myrtle Tackas Deaki. She was a graduate of Morgantown, High School . She worked successfully for many years with Gloria Marshall Figure Salons as a counselor but her most important job was making a home for her family. She enjoyed following politics, cooking , baking and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also a member of the Cahaba Heights UMC. She is survived by her husband, Jack N. Gerwig , of Mt. Holly, NC, two sons Jack G. Gerwig, of Bridgeport, WV and Joel L. Gerwig, of Austin, TX, two daughters Jill G. Read, of Rodan, MT and Lisa J. Bennett, of Mountain Brook, AL, a brother, John Deaki, of Morgantown, WV, two sisters Jean Smith, of Morgantown and Zelda Laurita, of Morgantown, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jamie Lee Gerwig and two brothers, Stephen Tackas and Emory Deaki. A memorial service celebrating her life will be 12:30 Saturday, June 3, 2017 in the Dering-Henson Funeral Home chapel.
