RP Hicks Obituary

RP Hicks, 94, of Morgantown, died Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at his home. He was born October 31, 1923 in Pocahontas, TN a son of the late John M. Hicks and Janie Hogue Hicks. He was a retired veteran of the United States Navy with twenty years of service and fought in WWII. He also retired from the Monongalia County Board of Education after ten years of service and was a caretaker at Pisgah Cemetery for may years. RP was also a member of the Triune Halleck Fire Department and Bethel Baptist Church. He enjoyed staying busy by working in his garden, mowing grass and going fishing but most of all, loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his little dog, Peanut. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Austin Hick, two sons Charles E. Hicks Carol, of Virginia and Jack M.Hicks, of Morgantown, three daughters Avis L. Sparrer, of Virginia, Bonita I. Homchenko Michael, of Morgantown, and Serena A. Roupe, of Auburn, GA, a sister, Pricilla Knight, of Memphis, TN, twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren . In addition to his parents, he was preceded on death by an infant daughter, Linda Faye Hicks and a sister, Helen Frye. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 19, 2017 from 6-9 p.m. at Dering-Henson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Ed Moats officiating. Private burial will be in the West Virginia National Cemetery, Pruntytown, WV. Caring services are provided by Dering-Henson Funeral Home. Condolences online at www.dering-henson.com
